Knie

The circus is in town.

Knie's site is only 4 trapezoid blocks down the boulevard from our apartment.

Knie is this 200 year old circus' name, and it's THE circus of Switzerland.  It was explained to me that Knie is a very sentimental thing for many Swiss adults.  The circus takes its annual tour, ending up in the same area at the same time each year, layering the memories.  For Geneva, the time is now...the end of summer and the beginning of the school year.

It's possible for children to take a peek and tour around on the grounds adjacent to the main tent to look at the animals between showtimes, so the kids and I gave it a try.  It's never too uplifting to look at tired circus animals, but the atmosphere of the tents and the ticket booths is fascinating - like walking into an enormous time capsule. We subtly stood and gawked for quite a while at the performers during their break and warm up time.

Knieto.

The whole scene was gritty and saccharine and manically fun - with a dash of sinister.

What a cool circus! Pretty soon we will have Midnight Circus in Wells Park, but they only have a dog - no ponies.
